The Shrine of Saint Veronica
The Shrine of Saint Veronica, 5/17/08

This statue of Saint Veronica is found in St. Peter’s Basilica. I learned that Saint Veronica is the renowned legendary woman who, moved by the sight of Christ carrying his cross to Golgotha, gave him her kerchief to wipe his brow, after which he handed it back imprinted with the image of his face. All I can say is he must have been wearing an awful lot of makeup!

I think of all the places we visited in Europe, I was most awed by the Vatican. It is truly the most beautiful structure that I have ever seen. And the art is absolutely amazing. I think this sculpture is particularly beautiful.

I submitted this photo to JPG Magazine Issue 19: Faith. Think it’s a good fit? Vote here!

  3. Thank you both!

  4. Pretty amazing…. you have an eye and a good sense of framing….. I’d have given you an A if you had submitted this in my class.

  5. Saint Vernonica, sometimes translated as meaning “true image”, is the patron saint of photographers. Good choice! Maybe she picked you instead of you picking her? Nicely composed. Good luck with your contest.
